Who built the camps?

In order to intern large groups of prisoners, the German occupying forces made use of existing wooden barracks complexes of the Dutch army near Amersfoort, or had new ones built, such as Westerbork on the site of the former refugee camp for German and Austrian Jews. A completely new internment camp was constructed near Vught. Dutch sub-contractors and fitters were involved in building the new barracks, and prisoners were also put to work on building and expanding the camps.
